Welcome to the Bon Geste website, Bon Geste, as its name suggests, is a humanitarian association that, since 1994, has been bringing together vulnerable children, including street children, in Burundi, feeding them, educating them, and sending them to school when possible. I myself was a driving force behind this initiative when, with the 1993 crisis, I noticed that the phenomenon of children living on and off the streets was increasing dramatically. This worried me, of course, because I remain convinced that these children constitute a ticking time bomb, insofar as, being uneducated, they inherit the violence of the streets, which they will later reverberate throughout society, once they are adults.
Vision
By helping vulnerable children in general to have a better life, we want to contribute to building a better world. As we have already pointed out elsewhere, vulnerable children, especially those on the streets, constitute a ticking time bomb for society. By ignoring them, we are in a way jeopardizing the future of the country, from every point of view. We want to contribute to building a better world by helping these children escape this distress. We believe that we will have contributed, even a little, to building a peaceful, prosperous Burundi, where people, young and old, rich and poor, of all ethnicities, have access to the same opportunities.
Mission
Overall, the Bon Geste Association was created with the aim of providing psychological, material and social assistance to street children, as well as to children in difficult situations in general; particularly orphans and other vulnerable children (OVC). This is to prevent, among other things, the catastrophic consequences that could befall society if these children were not supervised and assisted.
